CBL Tutors

Thank you for taking the time to teach CBL. Students in CBL are given resources ahead of time to familiarize them with the content of a patient case, and you, as tutor facilitate guided discovery using related questions in the tutorial. The resources below will help you prepare for your role.

New Tutor – The Essentials of Teaching CBL

These essential resources introduce new tutors to CBL, strategies for being an effective tutor, including asking good questions, and where to find the tutor guide.  The one hour recording of the webinar will introduce the other resources including optimizing the synchronous online learning environment and how to respond to silence. If you are a new tutor, consider taking the time to work through the e-module to gain an in depth understanding of CBL, underlying theories, and strategies for effective questioning.

Returning Tutor – Moving Beyond the Essentials

These resources have been prepared to support your teaching techniques, beyond delivering the curriculum. A live faculty development session, Moving Beyond the Essentials, is offered throughout the year. During this webinar you will have the opportunity to discuss pitfalls that can disrupt your CBL environment and share strategies, successes and challenges within a community of practice. Consult the events tab for upcoming sessions.
The faculty development session, recording, and tutor manual were very helpful.  I felt well prepared going into it without prior experience, and I felt well supported at the session, with the just-in-time opportunity for coaching.
