HSR Tutors

Thank you for taking the time to teach HSR. Your role is to facilitate a guided 2-hour group discussion that helps learners consolidate their learning around HSR learning outcomes as they become effective consumers of research and to provide coaching on the Practicum Exercise. The resources on this site will help you prepare for your teaching role.

We have resources for new and returning HSR tutors, focused events to help further develop your teaching skills, and just-in-time faculty development sessions called HSR EduCafes, offered 1-hour before the tutorial, where HSR tutors meet to discuss the upcoming session, challenges, and teaching strategies.

Register by clicking on the session(s)

All MD Program teachers are asked to become familiar with the following resources when preparing for their teaching roles (1) Psychological Safety and (2) Learner Mistreatment.

New Tutor – The Essentials of Teaching HSR

These essential resources introduce new tutors to HSR. The video recording (coming soon) will introduce you to the HSR curriculum, HSR tutorials, Practicum Exercise, Critical Appraisal task and your role as the HSR tutor. If you are a new tutor, please become familiar with this content before you start to teach. You can also access the content by reviewing the PDF of the slides. The other resources include an E-module on the practicum exercise and on optimizing the synchronous online learning environment and how to respond to silence.

Returning Tutor – Moving Beyond the Essentials

These resources have been prepared to support your teaching techniques, beyond delivering the curriculum. A live faculty development session, Facilitating HSR Small Group Tutorials: Moving Beyond the Essentials, is offered at the beginning of the year for all tutors. Consult the events tab for these upcoming sessions.

The faculty development session, recording, and tutor manual were very helpful.  I felt well prepared going into it without prior experience, and I felt well supported at the session, with the just-in-time opportunity for coaching.
